Masterplan for The Urban Implementation Plan of The "EX FIERA DI ROMA" AREA , A.T.O.R. Ex Fair, Rome

Project Type

Masterplan

Date

2024

Location

Rome

The Masterplan proposes a series of interventions aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and the well-being of the surrounding community and that of the entire city of Rome. These include:

1. Urban Regeneration: Redevelopment of the urban area which has been in a clear state of degradation since 2007, transforming it into green spaces, public parks, pedestrian and cycle areas. This will not only improve the quality of the urban environment, but also the health and well-being of residents.

2. Sustainable Mobility: Promotion of ecological means of public transport, such as rail transport and bicycles, to reduce air pollution and congested traffic especially deriving from Via Cristoforo Colombo.

3. Energy Efficiency: Encourage the transition towards renewable energy sources and the adoption of energy saving practices in public and private buildings.

4. Management of Natural Resources: Preservation and enhancement of natural heritage, through conservation and sustainable management policies.

5. Community Participation: Active involvement of the community in decisions regarding urban development, promoting civic participation and citizen empowerment.

The Masterplan project for the sustainable development of this area represents an important initiative aimed at transforming this part of the city of Rome into a model of environmental and social sustainability. Through an integrated and collaborative approach, it aims to be a starting point for a radical change in the city's urbanization mode intended as a first step to guarantee a better future.

This descriptive report aims to provide an overview of the main components and objectives of the Masterplan project.

"The Plant of Nature" is an innovative project conceived with the inspiration of natural forms and processes. This Masterplan aims to harmoniously integrate architectural, landscape and functional elements within an urban context currently devoid of important green areas, promoting, beyond environmental sustainability, its reconnection with nature.

1. Project Concept:

The Masterplan "The Plant of Nature" was conceived with the intention of emulating the organic structure of a plant, with its roots, stem, branches, leaves and flowers.
This concept is reflected both in the organic aspect of the layout of the spaces, and therefore in its form, and in the distribution of functions within the site;
furthermore, it also functions in the same way for the supply of essential reserves for its growth over time, with the conservation of the two main sources of life: the sun and water.
Therefore the Masterplan has the objective of emulating and re-proposing on the territory everything that concerns the birth, growth and life itself of the plant.

Roots: Connection with the Territory

The "roots" of the project represent the deep connection with the surrounding area and its identity. It is planned to preserve and enhance the natural characteristics of the site, with its native vegetation and existing urban signs, underlining and continuing them in the territory. Furthermore, it aims to involve the local community in the decision-making process, to ensure adequate representation of the needs and desires of the population.

Stem or stem: Structure and Infrastructure

The "stem" of the project includes the main infrastructures and central architectural elements, such as the large square. It is planned to develop a network of pedestrian and cycle paths that cross the entire site, reconnecting it from side to side, in such a way as to facilitate sustainable mobility and promote socialization among residents. Furthermore, we propose the construction of buildings with low environmental impact and limitation of Co2 production, equipped with innovative technologies for energy saving, eco-sustainable materials and the responsible use of resources.

Branches: Public Spaces and Communities

The "branches" of the project represent the streets of the new park interconnected with public and community spaces, designed to encourage social interaction and the well-being of the population. It is planned to create meeting places, squares and gardens accessible to all, enriched with works of art and temporary installations that stimulate creativity and imagination. Furthermore, it is proposed that they promote cultural and recreational activities that involve people of all ages and backgrounds.

Leaves: Sustainability and Biodiversity

The "leaves" of the project symbolize environmental sustainability and biodiversity. It is planned to integrate large green areas around their site, contributing to the reduction of air pollution and the improvement of air quality. Furthermore, it aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices and the creation of natural habitats for local fauna, thus promoting the conservation of biodiversity, even in their latest plans.

The "Nature Plant" Masterplan represents a unique opportunity to transform the urban context into a regenerative and nature-inspired environment. Through its innovative conception and its attention to sustainability, it does not neglect contemporary urban design and ecological technologies.
This project aims to promote the well-being of people and the prosperity of communities, leaving a positive footprint for future generations.
